COVID-19 Work From Home

As more and more people start to work from home due to COVID-19, a set of work-from-home best practices and tips is in order. I have been working from home for over a quarter century now. There are things I do to ensure the experience is beneficial for me and my colleagues. It is important not to give your teammates and managers a bad experience while you work from home, whether permanently or temporarily. In reality, it has been found that not everyone works from home appropriately. Hopefully these tips will improve the experience.

Linux Notes: Fixing the Dropbox Container

In my article Containers with SELinux: Dropbox on CentOS 7, I went through the process for using the headless Dropbox client on CentOS 7. This worked wonderfully until the latest releases of Dropbox and CentOS 7. I upgraded CentOS 7, which restarted the container. That, in turn, upgraded Dropbox. This caused the Dropbox container to fail miserably with a permission error on a library it required.

vSphere Upgrade Saga: vRealize Suite, et al.

vRealize Operations

VMware vRealize Suite products have been upgraded to version 8.0. These major updates forced an update of my entire management portfolio for vSphere. I ended up upgrading not just vRealize Suite, but also NSX-V, vCenter, Horizon View, and my Unified Access Gateways (UAGs). This vSphere Upgrade Saga was a comprehensive update of all subsystems.

Everyone Has a Mr. Holland

If you have watched the movie Mr. Holland’s Opus, you will have realized that everyone has had a Mr. Holland: A teacher who was inspirational. A teacher who not only taught but went the extra mile. A teacher who was…more than an educator. I happen to have had several of them, but one stands out: Mr. Dennis Holland.
