Linux Notes: Extending a File System in a Virtual Disk

Recently, a comment came to the community about extending a virtual disk and the filesystem within. Given the filesystem type, it is possible to extend without rebooting the guest operating system, even if it is the boot device. In fact, it has been possible to do this on Linux and Windows for many years, but the Linux process seems to be an arcane invocation of commands. It is not magic.

vSphere Upgrade Saga: 6.7 Update Does Not Happen

My latest vSphere 6.7 upgrade issues were troublesome, frustrating, and problematic. VMware Update Manager (VUM) would not update a host. I tried to do an update many ways at many times, but it always showed as out of compliance even though the version of ESXi installed was the most recent version. VUM was broken. Or was it?

These services do not require the software-defined networking features to be enabled. At least not yet. That could change. Given my use for security, upgrading NSX-V is important to my environment. NVIDIA — Failed to allocate software rendering cache surface

I have been using a kvm-client for years. This is a VM running within KVM, but it has a physical keyboard, mouse, and display. From my desk, you do not even know that it is a VM. Until recently, I could not upgrade my NVIDIA drivers or my kernel with the latest security patches. This was unsettling, to say the least. The problem was “Failed to allocate software rendering cache surface” when trying to load X Windows.

Every year, I build a Lego Winter Village for my family. This year, I wanted to add a bit more to it—to go to the next step. I found a company that sells LED lights for Lego: Light My Bricks. Its kits really bring the entire diorama to the next level. I am not one to write about Legos, but this addition adds a bit of technology to any Lego set.
